I marched in my city's LGBTQA+ Pride Parade today, as I did last year. While it was stifling hot for the end of September even by southern standards (94° F by the time we had finished marching), I thoroughly enjoyed myself. This got me thinking about general neutral/unisex names. While some unisex names are wildly popular for one gender over the other some much so that we don't even think of them as unisex any more (like in the case of Ashley, Courtney, and Kelly), I have put together 30 names that are either true unisex names (names where the popularity is very close between the genders), names that are on the rise for both genders, or names that totally fit the unisex bill regardless of their gendered popularity.
There you have it: 30 unisex names.
Unisex names have always intrigued me. Having a name that is very fixated to the feminine (Kathryn-Claire for those of y'all who haven't seen my bio) and having siblings and parents with names that are very distinct in their gender, names that are unisex are kind of a mystery to me. Of course, I have friends with unisex names, and even like a few names that for some people are girls or boys names different than what I would think (like Cadence. To me: totally masculine. For the general public (apparently): feminine). Anyway, I digress. What are your favorite gender neutral names? Would you give your child a unisex name? See any I left off? nameberry.com
